I HAVE BEEN PRACTICING YOGA SINCE MY SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE I TOOK MY FIRST DOWN DOG IN A GYM CLASS LED BY A RECORDED CD. I TRIED MANY DIFFERENT STYLES OF YOGA ASANA OVER THE YEARS, BEFORE DISCOVERING BAPTISTE YOGA, A PRACTICE I WAS DRAWN TO FOR THE PHYSICAL CHALLENGE, AND HAS SINCE TRANSFORMED MY RELATIONSHIP TO MYSELF AND OTHERS. I HAVE COMPLETED TWO 200HR BAPTISTE YOGA TEACHER TRAININGS, AND OVER 200HRS OF YOGA TRAININGS WITH THE BAPTISTE INSTITUTE. MY CLASSES ARE BOTH NURTURING AND RIGOROUS – A COMBINATION THAT I BELIEVE ENCOURAGES POSSIBILITY AND OPENNESS IN OUR BODIES AND MINDS. I REMIND MY STUDENTS TO BE UP TO SOMETHING BIGGER, GET OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONES, FIRST ON OUR MATS AND THEN IN OUR LIVES!

One of  my greatest gifts is awareness and understanding of when to challenge students to go further, and when to encourage students to back off. When I am teaching in the room, I am completely present and aware of what is going on with each and every one of my students. I empower each student to become the best that their bodies and minds will allow in that moment. When you practice with me, you will feel loved for who you are, as you are, and you will walk away from each class feeling strong and inspired.

My teaching journey began at Samadhi Center for Yoga & Meditation where I completed a 250 hour Hatha Yoga training that focused on many different styles of yoga practice, including restorative and therapeutics. Shortly after, I eagerly sought out more training to deepen my own practice as well as my passion for teaching others. I have taken Therapeutic and Restorative training workshops with Judith Hanson Lasater and Baptiste Power Yoga trainings and workshops. I am a 750 hour certified Baptiste teacher. I have attended the Baptiste Art of Assisting program with Baron Baptiste and I am currently enrolled in the Baptiste Fit to Lead Program.

I am outgoing, fun and free-spirited. I love the outdoors, slack lining and snowboarding. When I am not in the yoga room or on the mountain, you can find me spending quality time with family and friends, which of course includes my gentle giant English Mastiff dogs.

Allison Allison Rissel believes our physical health directly affects our mental and emotional well-being. She has been helping people achieve a healthier lifestyle through yoga, personal training and exercise since 2006. In 2009, Allison stumbled upon Bikram yoga and began regularly attending classes in Austin, TX. Her knee pain disappeared, her anxiety subsided and she fell in love with Bikram so much that she published three studies examining the pulmonary, cardiovascular, and psychological effects of Bikram yoga. Allison holds her master's degree in Exercise Science, and her extensive anatomy & biomechanics training have given her the tools to work with a variety of clients including seniors, athletes, teens, and those suffering from chronic pain. She strongly believes that yoga is adaptable for every body and that proper modifications and adjustments can help relieve current pain or prevent future damage.

Allison completed her 500-hour yoga teacher training with Camp Utopia and is also the co-owner of the enLIGHTen program, a coaching program that helps individuals lose weight and gain more energy by learning healthy behaviors through the use of the yoga chakra system. When she's not at Odyssey Yoga Studio, she's either playing outside or traveling around the country training new yoga teachers. When you see Allison in classes or riding her bike around Longmont make sure to wave and say "HI!"

WHAT DOES A HEALTH COACH DO?

A Health Coach is a guide and mentor who empowers clients to take responsibility for their own health and supports them to implement and sustain lifestyle and behavior changes that will contribute to the achievement of their personal wellness goals. A Health Coach’s work is about integrating change into people’s lives, giving them things to try, and building on what they’ve done before. Coaches provide clients a bridge between foods and lifestyle, primary food “What That Means” and secondary food “What That Means”. Some common areas where a Health Coach may help a client to focus include weight management, food cravings, sleep, energy, stress management, and digestion--- just to name a few.

WHAT DOES A HEALTH COACH NOT DO?

A Health Coach does not take place of any medical practitioner; rather, he or she serves as a missing link---the patient guide---that helps develop strategies to enact real, lasting lifestyle changes that address not only the diagnostic label (e.g., pre-dia-betic), but also serve to enhance the client’s overall wellness.  There are many similarities with other professions, but health coaching is not better or worse, it’s just different. A Health Coach does not diagnose, treat, or take responsibility for bringing about wellness changes in a client’s life; rather, he or she guides and supports the development of and progress toward personal wellness goals. A Health Coach often works with generally healthy clients who may not necessarily be practicing many bad habits, but who are not practicing enough of good habits.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTON AND SUGGESTED ANSWERS

What is a Health History?

“During a typical consultation, we will spend about an hour going through your Health History, your goals for your health, and what you’ve always imagined for life. We will also get a sense of how it would be to work together. How does that sound?”

What is a Health Coach?

“ A Health Coach guides you to reach your health and life goals by making step-by-step changes to your food and lifestyle, at a pace that’s comfortable for you.”

What about confidentiality?

“Like any other health professional, I keep everything clients share with me strictly confidential.”

How does the program work?

“I work with clients in 6-month health coaching programs to reach their goals for their health and life. During the six months, I meet with my clients to create a plan, step-by-step, so they feel and look great. Together, we look at their current diet and lifestyle and customize a way to upgrade their food and other aspects of their life. I also offer my clients bonus materials, like books and handouts on health-related topics and other fun ideas to help

improve their health. Would you be interested in a free Health History consultation?”

Why is it six months?

“Studies show that if you do something for six months, it is much more likely to become a long-term habit. My goal is that after six months of working together with a client, they will have a deeper understanding of the foods and lifestyle that work best for them. I want them to take what they learn through working with me and use it for the rest of their life."

Life Beyond Borders--Personal Transformation

6 week Program!

What Is The Six-Week Life Beyond Borders Program?

Life Beyond Borders combines personal transformation with nutritional education. In your six-week program you will meet once per week in a group setting. Each week you will have guided meditation, group self-inquiry coaching discussions plus nutrition education. Each week you will have a different nutrition theme. Theme examples: The Why behind vitamins and understanding which vitamins to take to help you age gracefully with vitality. Meal planning and cooking made simply for you and your family. Sampling tasty foods and learning how to crowd out foods that are unhealthy. How and were to shop on a budget. You will be surprised how inexpensive healthy foods can really be. If you know were to shop! Our Coaches will create an individual Nutritional program for you individually and in our group setting. Our coaches are trained to find your specific goals, guide you in the process of setting realistic goals and to obtain measurable results to meet your goals.

Only you can instill change and transformation in your life journey. However it is an incredible feeling to have a team to support you every step of the way.

Why is it six Weeks?
